French players have a terrific record in the ATP Open 13 and young gun Ugo Humbert has a chance to advance to the second round in Marseille at the expense of Ernests Gulbis.

Humbert defeated Steve Darcis to win a valuable Cherbourg Challenger event last week and was not disgraced when beaten 2-1 by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Open Sud de France at the beginning of the month.

He is one of the brightest talents in French tennis and faces an opponent who has often found it tough to cope when the pressure is on - Gulbis is excellent at his best but his forehand has a habit of breaking down when he is pushed hard.

Andrea Petkovic blew away Ana Bogdan in the opening round of the WTA Hungarian Open (BT Sport 3, 10am Wednesday) but bookmakers may have overreacted in making her favourite to see off 17-year-old Russian Anastasia Potapova in the second round in Budapest.

Petkovic is a former top-ten player but Potapova, a Wimbledon junior champion in 2016, has the potential to go higher in her career and she is already playing at a level that suggests she should be strong enough to see off the German.

The teenager became embroiled in a battle with Heather Watson on Monday, eventually seeing off the Brit in three sets, but Watson played arguably her best match of the year and Potapova still found a way to prevail.

Petkovic hammered Bogdan 6-1 6-0 but the Romanian has not won a match since the Limoges Challenger in November and that form looks misleading.
