Day one preview
The opening-day singles action gets going with a repeat of last year's ATP Finals title match between reigning champion Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem and the Greek continues to look a pretty sharp performer on indoor hard courts.
Thiem goes to London this year as a Grand Slam winner following his US Open triumph in September, but that may not save the Austrian from a round-robin loss against Tsitsipas, who won last year's final 6-7 6-2 7-6.
That was a solid fightback from Tsitsipas, who trails Thiem 4-3 in their personal series. But while both men have been in decent nick since the return from the sport's shutdown, Thiem may find it difficult avenging last season's O2 loss against an opponent who has won three of their last five clashes.
World number two Rafael Nadal opens his tilt at winning a first career year-ending tournament with a match against Andrey Rublev.
Some reckon this year offers Nadal his best chance of finally going all the way in the ATP Finals - he has made the final only twice. But while indoor tennis never came easy to the king of clay, at the advanced age of 34 it's a more laborious task for the Spaniard than ever and he's difficult to fancy at the prices.
The oddsmakers know their onions and their market-making on this one is quite telling. Rublev has barely put a foot wrong this season since enduring back problems in 2019 and Nadal could be vulnerable against the Russian 23-year-old.
Nadal dropped just five games against Rublev in their only previous meeting in the 2017 US Open, but that's likely to have little bearing on their second clash and the outsider has a big opportunity to post a first win over his legendary opponent.
