Andreescu has a big chance to start well in her homeland

Babos is a fine doubles player but more limited at singles

Bianca Andreescu enjoyed herself in Washington DC last week and the Canadian teenager could hardly have a better chance to post a first-round win in the WTA Rogers Cup having drawn Timea Babos.

There are high hopes for Andreescu and while it's way too soon to suggest she is going to be great, she has enough about her to make the most of the chance the Premier Five tournament in Toronto has given her.

Victory for the wild-card could see her line up against tenth seed Agnieszka Radwanska or Stanford runner-up Coco Vandeweghe and that's a real possibility because Babos is struggling this season after a positive campaign in 2016 in which she ended the year ranked a lofty 26th in the world.

Seventeen-year-old Andreescu, ranked 144th in the world, surprised Camila Giorgi and second seed Kiki Mladenovic in the USA capital before finding Andrea Petkovic too solid in the last eight.

However, a similar effort could see her past Babos, a fine doubles player whose singles prowess is more limited.

There has been a rush to back Mikhail Youzhny to open well in Montreal against Borna Coric, but if the Croat is fit his price could be a gift.
