Sunday's European preview

Cologne v Borussia Dortmund

Title-chasing Borussia Dortmund travel to surprise package Cologne, a team more used to fighting relegation than for the European places as they currently are, but the visitors look the pick.

Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Mainz on Wednesday reduced the gap between them and Bayern Munich to four points at the top of the Bundesliga.

Star striker Erling Haaland came off the bench in that encounter and may start his first game since January, handing a big boost to the away side’s hopes.

Their opponents Cologne are the lowest scorers in the top seven and have scored more than one just once in their last nine games.

Dortmund beat them 2-0 in the reverse fixture and with Marco Rose able to welcome Haaland back, the Yellow and Blacks can pick up a crucial win.

Monaco v Paris Saint-Germain

There aren’t many opportunities to back Paris Saint-Germain at almost odds-against in Ligue 1 but Mauricio Pochettino’s side are around that price as they travel to Monaco.

As recently as last year this would have been a huge game in the title race but the Red and Whites have failed to mount any challenge this time, going into the weekend in eighth position, 24 points off PSG.

To make matters worse the home side were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday by Braga with a 3-1 aggregate defeat.

The 1-1 draw that confirmed their exit meant Monaco have won just one of their last six games in all competitions and after their penalty shootout defeat to Nantes in the French Cup, their season is in danger of petering out.

PSG suffered European disappointment of their own when they were knocked out by Real Madrid but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Bordeaux and can confirm their domestic superiority with another victory.
