Day four preview

The final two first-round matches of the Masters take place on Wednesday and there are two short-priced favourites in action as Judd Trump is 1-3 to get past Ryan Day while Kyren Wilson is 8-15 to see off Stuart Bingham.

Day and Bingham are capable performers but the Trump-Wilson double pays just over even-money and if both prices appear too generous it makes sense to play a combination.

Trump is yet to win a tournament this season but The Ace has been performing better than his tournament runs suggest and the Bristol potter's motivation doesn't always spike in the low-key Home Nations events that currently dominate the tour.

Give Trump a high-class, long-format competition and he is far more likely to be seen at his best. He showed that all his talent remains when making the final of the Champion of Champions competition earlier this season and he has won an incredible 14 ranking event titles over the last four seasons.

Day is back for a seventh crack at the Masters but it hasn't been an event that has yielded much success for the Welshman. Just three wins have come from those seven Masters appearances and, while Dynamite remains a good performer in patches, the 42-year-old isn't getting any better or any more consistent.

Trump should come through the afternoon clash and roll the double on to Wilson. The Warrior has already claimed the British Open title this season and, although things haven't been particularly rosy since, the Kettering cueman played well in the Scottish Open last month and won Group 3 of the Championship League last week.

Bingham is just about hanging on to his top-16 status but on the evidence of this season that won't be the case for much longer.

The 46-year-old former world champion has failed to qualify for three ranking events this season, hasn't made it past the second round of the five that he has competed in, and it is hard to see how he can stop Wilson landing the double.
