Fourth-round preview

Luca Brecel whitewashed Stephen Maguire to reach the last 16 of the UK Championship, but the Belgian Bullet should expect more of a fight from the vastly experienced Anthony Hamilton.

Despite the 6-0 drubbing, Brecel managed just one break over 50 and the complexion of the match very much went against the heavy-scoring nature of his opponent.

But those are conditions that Hamilton, who is a tough match player operating close to the peak of his powers, should revel in.

The Sheriff of Pottingham came from 3-0 down to pip ninth seed Mark Williams in the second round before reeling off the final four frames in a 6-4 win over an in-form Ricky Walden on Tuesday.

Brecel is supremely talented and has long been talked up as a potential star, but he is a difficult player to trust with one positive performance rarely backed up by another.

Hamilton could prove overpriced at 2-1, but quotes of 4-6 that he gets four frames on the board is where punters should target.

World number 14 Barry Hawkins is the highest-ranked player left in bottom-half of the draw and will be hoping to showcase his trophy credentials against Judd Trump’s conqueror Matthew Selt.
