Day five preview

Mark Allen has been playing some excellent snooker in recent months and the Pistol looks good value to see off Kyren Wilson and seal a spot in the UK Championship quarter-finals.

Allen won the Northern Ireland Open in front of a jubilant home crowd last month and the Antrim ace has been performing near the peak of his powers for some time.

Prior to Belfast glory, the Pistol had made the final of the British Open and the 36-year-old appears to have a renewed drive.

A recent trip to the Champion of Champions yielded just a single victory over Luca Brecel, but Allen ran into an inspired Judd Trump in the quarter-finals and it doesn’t appear that Wilson is about to unleash a performance of that level.

The Warrior was beaten by Ryan Day in the first round of the Champion of Champions and prior to that the Kettering cueman lost to Stephen Maguire in the second-round of the Northern Ireland Open.

Wilson failed to win a single game at the British Open and one victory from his last two ranking events isn’t the return the Warrior was looking for.
