Players Championship final preview

A repeat of January's Masters final sees Neil Robertson and Barry Hawkins renew their rivalry and there could be a sense of deja vu with the Australian ace expected to stamp his authority again.

Robertson chalked up a convincing 10-4 win at London's Alexandra Palace last month as he rattled off six of the final seven frames to claim his second Masters crown at Hawkins' expense.

There was little the Hawk could have done against the relentless scoring power of Robertson and the Aussie's wins over Kyren Wilson, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Jimmy Robertson at the Aldersley Leisure Village suggest he may suffer a similar fate.

Since 2016, Hawkins has featured in eight finals and his two title triumphs came courtesy of a 10-7 win over Ryan Day in the World Grand Prix in 2017 and a 4-3 victory over Kyren Wilson at the Paul Hunter Classic in 2019.

However, there have been some damaging defeats along the way for the Hawk, who was also thrashed 10-1 by O'Sullivan in the Masters final in 2016 as well as being outclassed 11-3 by Mark Selby in the China Open three years ago.

Hawkins is a reliable customer but doesn't have the gears of his opponent and is unlikely to be as relaxed given what happened just over a month ago.

With this longer format only enhancing the claims of Robertson, punters should take the world number four to win by at least three frames.
