Sunday's Betfred World Championship qualifiers betting preview & tip

Talented youngster James Cahill could take the game to the Hitman

Starts 10am Sunday

James Cahill was hugely impressive in his Betfred World Championship first-round qualifier and the Blackpool cueman could be worth supporting in his round-two clash with Michael Holt in Sheffield.

Holt is not opposed lightly because the Hitman is a seriously talented performer.

However, Cahill, one of Britain's most able young players, played one of his best matches of the season to pip Andrew Higginson 10-9 in his English Institute of Sport opener.

Breaks of 119, 98, 100, 131 and 118 from Cahill don't tell the whole story. The 23-year-old led 8-2 before Higginson, no mean performer himself, reeled off seven frames on the trot to lead 9-8. But Cahill dug in manfully to pinch the final two frames and take the honours.

Given Cahill's scoring, an interest on him to make the match's highest compilation looks worth having.

Holt fired in breaks of 136, 97 and 106 in a 10-5 victory over Brandon Sargeant in his curtain-raiser. But his opponent, who is eyeing a return to the main tour next season, looks to be in a rich vein of form and it could pay to follow him for the immediate future.

Two-time Crucible finalist Ali Carter eased into the second qualifying round on Saturday with a 10-1 pasting of Paul Davison.
