Judd Trump v Anthony McGill

Head-to-head: Trump leads 8-1

Judd Trump is expecting a tough test from Anthony McGill in their Betfred World Championship second-round clash and the Scottish outsider may be playing well enough to avoid a pasting from the 2019 Crucible king.

Trump considered not competing in the sport's showpiece tournament in Sheffield after reportedly suffering burnout, and the Bristolian, second-favourite for this year's title behind Neil Robertson, looked almost becalmed on the baize in his 10-4 opening victory over Iranian debutant Hossein Vafaei.

Trump said that for him it's about improving as the tournament goes on and it may be a bonus for the Ace in the Pack that McGill himself has not been performing at the peak of his powers in recent weeks.

That said, many observers are expecting better from the Glaswegian, the only player in the last 16 who failed to make a century break in round one. And McGill was bedding in a new cue tip in his 10-7 curtain-raiser against Liam Highfield, which suggests the 2020 semi-finalist still has hopes of being in Sheffield for the long haul.

Trump leads their personal series 8-1, but many of their recent rumbles have been close and McGill, whose shot selection is good, may not be embarrassed by the former world number one. Backing the match to last for 21 or more frames looks the way to go.

Neil Robertson v Jack Lisowski

Head-to-head: Robertson leads 10-1

Jack Lisowski admitted he felt the fear factor in his tense 10-8 Betfred World Championship opening victory over Matthew Stevens, but Jackpot could experience different emotions with expectations off his shoulders for his second-round clash with tournament favourite Neil Robertson.

Lisowski's attack-minded game has changed little since his 13-9 defeat to Robertson at this same stage of last year's World Championship, and while Robertson is the one who has again been hitting the headlines this season, the slowly-improving outsider could be worth an interest with a handicap start of 5.5 frames.

Robertson, a 10-5 victor in the last 32 against Crucible debutant Ashley Hugill, who led 3-1 at the first interval, would do well to cross the finishing line before Lisowski wins eight frames. And there's even a chance that Lisowski could pose more problems for the Australian than he did in Sheffield 12 months ago.

The Thunder from Down Under has won ten of their 11 previous meetings, but Lisowski has been reasonably competitive in most of their longer matches.
