Day seven preview
Mark Williams and Jack Lisowski registered narrow wins in the quarter-finals of the Masters, and the pair could be in for the long haul again when they meet in the last four.
Two-time Masters champ Williams showed all his battling qualities to see long-standing rival Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-5 in the last eight having been 3-0 down.
That was Williams' first success over the Rocket in eight years and he is seeking to reach a first Masters final since winning the title in 2003.
Standing in his way is fellow left-hander Lisowski, advised each-way at 22-1 ante-post by Racing Post Sport's Henry Hardwicke.
The 31-year-old edged out Hossein Vafaei 6-4 in the previous round, holding his nerve under intense pressure to win the final two frames.
Lisowski is seen as the best player on the tour yet to have won a ranking title with a lack of concentration often the charge levelled against him. But he did not switch off at the business end against the dangerous Vafaei.
The last time he faced Williams it went all the way to a decider, with Lisowski coming out a 4-3 winner at the World Grand Prix late last year.
Neither player will give an inch and it would be no surprise if another deciding frame was required, so banking on there being at least ten frames looks the way to go in the first Ally Pally semi-final.
Stuart Bingham put in a performance close to his World Championship-winning best when hammering Shaun Murphy 6-0 in the quarter-finals and the Basildon cueman now takes a crack at Judd Trump in the semi-finals.
Trump battled through a high-class contest against Barry Hawkins to reach the last four, winning by a 6-5 scoreline, and we know the Ace has the ability to blow any rival away.
Bingham is capable of reproducing his quarter-final effort, but a repeat of that performance level may not be quite as likely as the prices suggest and backing Trump -1.5 frames on the handicap looks a bet.
