In-form Lisowski may pressure Pistol

Heavy-scoring could take centre stage

Mark Allen is a red-hot favourite to see off Jack Lisowski in the Gibraltar Open last-16, but the Pistol may not get it all his own way.

The Northern Irish ace has dropped just two frames in this year’s competition and successive 4-1 triumphs against John Higgins and Dave Gilbert indicate Allen’s determination to claim some silverware.

Allen has reached just one ranking event quarter-final this term but he’s clearly in good nick and his heavy-scoring (he mustered breaks of 101, 84 and 74 in Friday’s demolition of Gilbert) could prove decisive.

However, Lisowski has halted two ranking-event winners – Mark King and Anthony Hamilton – in teeing up this match and he can’t be discounted.

Lisowski is yet to fulfill his potential but his results are improving and the 4-0 drubbing of German Masters champion Hamilton highlights how well he is cueing.

The Cheltenham cueman made three centuries in that win and backing this match to last six or more frames is well worth an interest.
