Green-baize legend Hendry can take Seniors by storm

Lines could prove a vulnerable favourite for veterans' crown

The World Seniors Championship is not a World Snooker-run tournament this year, but with Stephen Hendry ending his retirement to take part in the event with a view to competing in the upcoming Betfred World Championship qualifiers, some bookmakers have priced up the Scunthorpe action.

Peter Lines is the marginal favourite to lift the veterans' trophy, but Oliver's old man has not been in the best of nick of late and with a market in which it's 12-1 bar the top three - Northern Ireland's Patrick Wallace is the third favourite - there could be plenty of value in a punt on seven-time world champion Hendry.

The one-time flying Scot is likely to have prepared well for his return and all he really needs from his trip to Lincolnshire is to prove he can still win titles.

The fire is likely to still be there and there looks no reason why the older brigade of John Parrott, Cliff Thorburn, Dennis Taylor, Tony Knowles, Joe Johnson and Willie Thorne should trouble younger adversary Hendry.

The early 11-4 that BoyleSports were quoting did not last long, but Hendry still looks worth a bet at shorter odds.
