Tournament preview

Prolific Australian Neil Robertson achieved only the second whitewash win in a ranking event final over multiple sessions last week in the European Masters, a 17th career ranking title and a success that he is expected to build on this week in Berlin for the German Masters.

The talented, heavy-scoring left-hander is one of the world's best players, as was evident in his impressive effort in Austria which culminated in a dominant 9-0 victory.

The Tempodrom venue is loved by players and a good standard is expected over the next five days.

The title favourite is Judd Trump and the world champion holds every chance from a favourable draw. He could well be the man standing in Robertson's way on Sunday.

The Aussie's Dornbirn win meant he maintained his remarkable run of winning a ranking title every year since 2006 and Robertson could now kick on and finish the season strongly, mirroring his efforts of last season.

Last season the Thunder from Down Under came alive after the Christmas break and reached four finals, winning the Welsh and China Opens and losing to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the Players and Tour Championship finals.

A favourable draw in Berlin should see Robertson, 37, cruise into the last eight, where he is most likely to meet the inconsistent John Higgins.

There is no player in the top half of the draw for backers of Robertson to fear. Others of note are Shaun Murphy and Ding Junhui, but they look set to clash in the second round.
