Group previews

It's the second day of Winners Group action in the Championship League and it looks set to be a day of top-quality snooker.

Judd Trump heads Group B in what looks a scorcher of a section. The Ace is joined by David Gilbert, Barry Hawkins and Ryan Day and you could make a case for any of that quartet progressing.

Trump beat Elliot Slessor, Daniel Wells and David Grace to reach this stage, and while that three-from-three record reads well, the results were more impressive than the performances. This is a major step-up on those three opponents and at the prices it could pay to oppose last year's Betfred World Championship hero.

Hawkins progressed from a section containing Anthony McGill, Craig Steadman and Hammad Miah. That's a world away from the level of today's opposition but the Hawk is a dangerous opponent when finding his rhythm.

The Kent cueman looked in decent touch, especially in a 3-0 win over Steadman, and if Hawkins is able to produce anything near his best form, the former Betfred World Championship runner-up could prove to be a handful.

Gilbert and Day are both excellent break-builders and you couldn't rule out either potter, but at the prices Hawkins makes most appeal.

Gary Wilson cruised though his opening group dropping just one frame along the way, and anything near that level of performance should be good enough again.

Wilson made knocks of 60, 73, 100, 107, 125 and 134 across the ten frames he contested and that's impressive break-building.

Those wins came against Mitchell Mann, Gerard Green and John Astley and while he will likely encounter stiffer resistance in this section it may not be as strong as the prices suggest.

The Tyneside Terror is a quality cueman and has little to fear from group rivals Luca Brecel, Mark Joyce and Ashley Carty.
