Group previews

The Champions League rolls on and big-hitters Barry Hawkins and Neil Robertson join the fray on Sunday.

Hawkins is housed in Group Seven along with Anthony McGill, Craig Steadman and Hammad Miah. The Hawk hasn't been in sparkling form this term, especially in major events, but the season has still yielded a win in the Paul Hunter Classic and quarter-finals in the Shanghai and European Masters and the China Championship.

It's no surprise to see peaks and troughs in results given there are so many tournaments on tour these days.

However, Hawkins is a Betfred World Championship runner-up and a four-time semi-finalist and there doesn't seem to be too much to have the Hawk flapping in this field.

McGill is next-best in the betting and he is a tough match player. However, the Scot doesn't have the scoring power to live with an on-song Hawkins and the same can be said for Steadman. Miah completes the quartet and he looks up against it so swoop for the even money about Hawkins.

Group 16 is headed by Robertson and the only thing not to like about the Aussie's chances is the price.

Robertson is a classy cueman and his talents are there for all to see. However, at 2-7 it could be worth looking elsewhere and the 5-1 on offer about Kurt Maflin looks more than fair.

Maflin is a capable break-builder and has enjoyed a consistent season highlighted by a solid run to the semi-finals of the Riga Masters.

The Lewisham potter can be fancied to beat section rivals Ken Doherty and Ashley Carty and that could set him up for a crack at Robertson and top spot.
