Mark Allen pulled a rabbit out of a hat to beat the Magician Shaun Murphy 9-8 in the opening round of the Coral Tour Championship but he may not be able to repeat the trick against Mark Selby.

Murphy made six centuries in that first-round contest but somehow failed to land a place in the semi-final.

Allen showed all his battling qualities to make it through to this stage but the Pistol still looked a long way from his best and he may not get as many opportunities against Selby.

The Jester looked in no mood for a joke and was pretty ruthless when putting away Yan Bingtao in round one.

The Leicester potter improved as that contest progressed and at 4-6 he looks well worth backing to continue that form against Allen.
