Preview

In a re-run of last year's Champion of Champions semi-final, Judd Trump and Mark Allen do battle again on Saturday evening for a place in Sunday's £150,000-to-the-winner final.

World number one Trump gets a confident vote to replicate his 6-4 success last season. A comfortable win is expected and the Juddernaut should be backed to cover the handicap.

Surprisingly, Northern Irishman Allen has the upper hand in the head-to-heads having won 13 of the 25 matches played between the talented duo, with honours even over the last three seasons.

Since the start of the 2017-18 campaign, Trump and Allen have met only twice, but that is more down to Allen failing to reach the business end of tournaments as frequently as Trump.

Last year's World champion Trump has bagged 12 professional titles in the last three years and reached the semi-final stage on an incredible 26 separate occasions - including all four tournaments this season.

Previous clashes between players are always informative and useful for punters, but Allen's marginal supremacy here is less relevant given how much Trump has improved in recent seasons to become the top player on the tour.

The 31-year-old remains a deadly and clinical scorer but has added greater discipline and fierce matchplay to his game, which will stand him in good stead here.

Allen can match Trump in the scoring department and this one could start with a barrage of high breaks but, when it matters most, Trump can show his class and assert to get the job done.
