Matthew Stevens to beat Ricky Walden
2pt 11-10 general

Preview

There's some cracking action in Tuesday's final round of Betfred World Championship qualifiers but in terms of a betting proposition the clash between Matthew Stevens and Ricky Walden could be the contest to concentrate on.

The matches have reverted to the traditional best-of-19-frame format after being first to six frames in the earlier rounds, and that could mean a late night for snooker punters.

Stevens is a two-time Betfred World Championship finalist and while the Welshman's performances have dipped in recent years, it's possibly best to attribute that to a lack of motivation rather than a drastic loss of ability.

When the Welsh Dragon is focused and putting in the practice hours for the major events, he remains a top-quality operator. That was evident when Stevens beat Chen Feilong, Ryan Day, Anthony Hamilton and Mark Selby to reach the quarter-finals of the UK Championship at the end of last year.

It seems fair to assume that the Carmarthen cueman will be focused, with a place in the biggest competition of them all on the line, and that could spell trouble for Walden.

The Chester potter has been operating below his optimum for the last few seasons and there doesn't seem as much upside to supporting him. There's no doubt that Walden is capable of winning this contest but the prices seem to overrate his chances of doing so.
