Scottish preview

Aberdeen were lacklustre in Monday's goalless draw at home to Ross County and there’s little to suggest that the Dons should be odds-on to beat St Johnstone on Saturday.

Jim Goodwin’s men have lost six of their last nine Scottish Premiership fixtures and any early-season optimism is beginning to evaporate.

Aberdeen do have some quality operators at this level, such as Bojan Miovski, Leighton Clarkson and Duk, but manager Goodwin is struggling to get the best out of his side.

The Dons' best performances have come in the Granite City, but they have won only one of their last four league matches at Pittodrie and even their home form seems to be deserting them.

Their sole victory in that time was a 1-0 win over 11th-placed Dundee United, when the Dons managed only two shots on target, one of which was Miovski's winning penalty.

St Johnstone have lost only three of their last nine league matches - a run that includes a victory over Rangers - and the Saints look worth backing to grab at least a point at Pittodrie.

Motherwell are the only Scottish Premiership side to win at St Mirren this season and the Buddies look excellent value to resist the challenge of Hearts.

Stephen Robinson’s men, who are unbeaten in nine games in Paisley, have beaten Hibs, Celtic and Aberdeen and have also held Rangers to a 1-1 draw on home soil this term.

It’s surprising to see the Buddies rated as outsiders for the visit of the Jambos and they look worth backing at 11-10 in the draw-no-bet market.
