Scottish football preview

Dundee are beginning to look like the side who were priced up as Scottish Championship ante-post favourites and at 11-10 the Dee are worth backing to win at Inverness.

Gary Bowyer’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Airdrie in the Scottish Cup last weekend, but they came through to win 6-2 after extra-time and the 90-minute scoreline is a little misleading. Dundee had 62 per cent possession, won the shot count 20-7 and the corner count 10-2 at Dens Park, and prior to that cup victory, Dundee had won three Championship matches on the bounce.

The Dee have lost just two of their last nine second-tier contests, they dominated the second half against Hamilton in the latest league tie, and they were clearly on top when beating Raith Rovers 2-0 on the banks of the Tey previously.

Inverness lost the shot and corner count against Scottish League Two side Stirling last weekend and Caley Thistle were pretty fortunate to win that cup clash 3-2. That’s the only victory Billy Dodds’s side have managed in their last seven matches and they look vulnerable when Dundee visit the Caledonian Stadium.

Stenhousemuir have scored 29 times in their last 12 matches, but a leaky defence has prevented Stenny climbing the table. Elgin have an identical scoring record over the same number of games and things could go goal-crazy at Borough Briggs.

Stenhousemuir were well fancied to be challenging for the League Two title this season but that hasn’t materialised and Stephen Swift’s side are 13 points off league leaders Dumbarton. Stenny certainly won’t be travelling to Moray attempting to sit in and play for a draw and backing over 3.5 goals looks a good bet.
