Saturday preview

Borussia Dortmund have lost each of their last eight meetings with Bayern Munich - last avoiding defeat against the Bavarians in a German Super Cup triumph in August 2019 - but they can hold their own in Der Klassiker on Saturday.

The sides head into their latest meeting level on 15 points in the Bundesliga and Bayern Munich should be buzzing, having followed their 4-0 dismantling of Bayer Leverkusen with a 5-0 thrashing of Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday.

But before the Leverkusen triumph they were on a four-match winless streak in Germany's top flight and Dortmund have been generally well drilled under Edin Terzic this season.

Since adding combative talents Nico Schlotterbeck and Salih Ozcan to their ranks in the summer, Dortmund have had more steel about them, as shown in their gritty 1-0 win over Revierderby rivals Schalke last month.

Wednesday's Champions League contest against Sevilla was more straightforward than expected - Dortmund ran out 4-1 winners - meaning Terzic could limit the minutes of his top players and they can take at least a point off Bayern in front of the Yellow Wall.

That hammering by Dortmund prompted the end of Julen Lopetegui's tenure with Sevilla and the Andalusians look all over the place this season.

They have managed only one win in their opening seven league contests and have taken only one point from their three Champions League group-stage matches.

Neither Youssef En-Nesyri nor loanee Kasper Dolberg have managed to put together a scoring streak and they are worth opposing against red-hot Athletic Bilbao.

With brothers Inaki and Nico Williams linking up brilliantly this term, Athletic Bilbao have won their last three matches 4-1 against Elche, 3-2 against Rayo Vallecano and 4-0 against Almeria, and show no signs of slowing down.

Plagued by injuries, Milan went down 3-0 against Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Champions League and potential absences could also hold them back against Juventus.

First-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan, productive winger Alexis Saelemaekers and veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been part of a lengthy injury list for the Rossoneri, who are unlikely to be at full strength for the visit of the Old Lady.

Juve have work to do themselves but should have restored some confidence with convincing 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Bologna and Maccabi Haifa.

Dusan Vlahovic scored in both of those wins and is starting to form a promising partnership with Arkadiusz Milik, at least when Max Allegri opts for two up top, and Juventus could represent value in the double-chance market at the San Siro.
