Match preview

Worcester director of rugby Steve Diamond reckoned his players were "about a month behind" the rest of the Premiership in terms of their pre-season preparations after last week's 45-14 defeat at London Irish.

The Warriors' summer has been dogged by the threat of potential administration, and their first home fixture was at risk of being called off right up until Friday.

The players' lack of contact training was evident against Irish, and even allowing for a bit of overstatement from the coaching team and the likelihood that the players will dig that bit deeper in their first home game, Worcester look to have a huge task ahead of them.

Exeter's clash with Leicester last week was brutally physical and the Chiefs are unlikely to show any mercy.

Worcester lost 16 games last season, 11 of them by more than 20 points, and were given a 16-point start at London Irish in round one but lost by nearly double that margin.

Exeter ran in three tries last week to beat the team who had the best defence in 2021-22, and this could be a big away win.
