Round Two preview

England and France set out on the road to their potential Six Nations title-decider at the end of April with straight-forward victories in round one, and neither are expected to have many issues chalking up a second success.

France took a while to get going at home to Italy in their opening match and had to call upon their star-studded bench to make sure they wrapped up the bonus-point, eventually running out 39-6 winners.

The 2018 champions will want to move through the gears heading towards that round five showdown with England and are expected to brush aside an Ireland team who threw away a 14-5 half-time lead against Wales on the opening weekend.

Ireland have never won a Six Nations game on French soil and the layers don’t like the chances of a young squad going through a transitional period, making them 26-point underdogs in Toulouse.

An England team showing 11 changes from the 57-5 demolition of Scotland are even heavier favourites to crush the Italians in Parma on Sunday after being handed a 44-point handicap.

Scotland offered some resistance against England, despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise, but were ultimately second-best and they could struggle again when they travel to Cardiff to face a Wales side riding high after victory in Dublin.

Wales are already reaping the benefits of a significant number of their players going full-time in January and have a distinct edge over a Scots squad that’s been hampered by injury and illness.
