Round Five preview

In a tournament that has reached new levels this season, two teams have again shown themselves to be a cut above the rest in this year's Women's Six Nations and it is fitting that France and England should meet on the final day with the Grand Slam on the line.

These two have duked it out for the title in the last four seasons and the battles have been close.

Last year England prevailed 10-6 in the final of a shortened format, while in 2020 the Red Rose were 19-13 winners in Pau. Things were more clear-cut in 2019, when England triumphed 41-26 on the way to another Grand Slam, but the year before that there was just one point in it when France claimed the spoils 18-17.

England have carried all before them this season, running in 42 tries in four games - more than twice as many as France - and conceding just two.

France have been strong in defence too, shipping just 24 points, and the Red Roses, missing captain Sarah Hunter through injury, are likely to be made to work hard.

But their cutting edge should prove too much, and a double-figure handicap should prove within their reach.
