The Lions have not been their normal devouring selves at Ellis Park this season but they still look worth a wager to give up three points to the Stormers in a Johannesburg clash where the victor will stay in the playoff hunt and the loser will then need a sensational amount of luck to qualify for the knockout games.

The Lions have won their last two home games and they have triumphed four of their last five meetings with the Stormers including the last two up on the Highveldt 52-31 and 29-22. As runners-up for the last three years, it is clear that they know how to get regular-season results when it matters.

Morale should be decent in the Stormers camp after they followed up their Newlands draw with the Crusaders with victory over the Highlanders in Cape Town and they have won in Melbourne and Durban this campaign. However, they have lost the other five of their seven away games by four points or more including a bruising 40-3 reverse at the Bulls in round one.

Sharks v Hurricanes

Back the Hurricanes to make light of their dreadful recent record in Durban with a success of between one and 12 points over the Sharks at Kings Park.

The Canes are, of course, much better than they showed in a rare home defeat to Jaguares last Saturday and have won four and drawn one of their six away games this season . The Argentinian outfit's surge to the top of the South African Conference should not be taken lightly either.

The Sharks sneaked into the playoff spots with their 27-17 win over the Lions at Kings Park last Saturday but they have been sunk in their own tank by the Reds, Jaguares, Bulls and Stormers this term.
