In the 20 years of European rugby’s Challenge Cup competition English and French clubs have held sway, lifting the trophy on 18 occasions.

The only times that hegemony has been broken were in 2010,
when Cardiff upset future European kings Toulon in the final, and in
2013, in the time when teams dropped from the then-Heineken Cup and mighty Leinster made their class tell.

And that grip might be loosened again this year as Ospreys look poised to take advantage of a decent draw and plot a path to the final.
