New-look Wales still need time to gel

Wales took plenty of positives out of their defeat to Australia last week as there were encouraging signs that their move towards a more expansive game is bearing fruit.

But they face a different kind of challenge against tier-two side Georgia, and Warren Gatland's decision to make wholesale changes to his line-up may mean their progress stalls a little.

It's quite usual for Wales to ring the changes for autumn Tests against lesser opposition, but last week's performance suggested more time is needed for the players to settle into the new approach.

Wales produced 17 offloads against the Wallabies and their slick back play was eye-catching after years of piling up the middle. But they were turned over 20 times and there were numerous handling errors, and it's possible we may see more of the same as a new set of players step up to the mark.

Georgia are renowned for their powerful pack so it is in Wales's interest to keep the game moving and avoid a close-quarters battle, although the Lelos have added more of an all-round dimension to their game and last week's 54-22 victory over Canada will have boosted confidence no end.

Wales were nearly undone by Japan last November and while it's hard to see Georgia pushing them as close, it may be comfortable rather than convincing.
