Match preview

Gloucester and Worcester finished level on points at the top of Pool One in this season's Premiership Cup, with the Cherry & Whites taking top spot and home advantage in Wednesday's semi-final courtesy to a superior points difference.

Both clubs were able to name mix-and-match sides for the pool matches, combining established names with emerging talent, but Gloucester are caught up in the battle for a place in the Premiership playoffs and have to focus on their league clash with Bath on Saturday.

Their team has a much fresher look to it, with few first-team regulars and a bench made up entirely of academy players.

Worcester have their share of fringe players but also include experienced forwards Ethan Waller, Andrew Kitchener, Sam Lewis and Sione Vailanu, while the match comes at a good time for international backs Duhan van der Merwe, who starts on the wing, and centre Francois Venter, who is on the bench. Both are returning from injury.

Worcester claimed a 27-21 win at home when the sides met in the pool stage, and this could be similarly close so backing the Warriors with a start looks the best approach.
