Sharks v Reds
Sky Sports Action, 2.05pm Friday

The Sharks' strange season took another bizarre twist last Saturday as they not only failed to follow up their fabulous 42-5 win over the Lions in Johannesburg against the Jaguares but were thrashed 51-17 in Durban.

That defeat was a third Kings Park reverse in their last four home outings and their 28-14 success over Australian Conference leaders the Rebels in round six, let alone the back-to-back comfortable triumphs of weeks one and two, must seem a long time ago.

The Reds are probably not good enough to deserve support with a 13-point handicap but they boast the most in-form tryscorer in the match in Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi.

Kerevi took his tally for the season to five with a brace in the Queensland franchise's 32-17 defeat to the Bulls in Pretoria last Saturday and 7-2 looks a big price about another five-pointer.

Recommendation
S Kerevi to score a try
1pt 7-2 Betfair

Sunwolves v Hurricanes
Sky Sports Action, 11am Friday

Hurricanes head coach John Plumtree is resting the Barrett brothers but they should still have too much firepower for the Sunwolves in Tokyo and are taken to give up 13 points on the handicap.

Bulldozing centre Ngani Laumape has seven tries this campaign, scrum-half TJ Perenara is as probing as ever and back-three men Ben Lam, Wes Goosen and Chase Tiatia are never short of confidence, pace or trickery.

The Canes responded to their heavy home defeat to the champion Crusaders with victory over the Highlanders in Dunedin before their bye week and the Chiefs' return to form suggests that their round-five draw in Hamilton was not as out of kilter as it seemed at the time.

The Sunwolves will not be taken lightly after their wins this season over the Waratahs and Chiefs and several worthy performances but they won 43-15 at the Westcap last year and the Canes won 83-17 in Tokyo in 2017.

Recommendation
Hurricanes -13
1pt 10-11 general

Chiefs v Lions
Sky Sports Action, 8.35am Friday

The Chiefs can give up six points in making it four straight wins when they host the Lions.

Star outside-back Damian McKenzie is out for the season following the knee injury sustained in their worthy 33-29 home win over the in-form Blues last Saturday but he was far from the only reason for their wins over the Bulls in Pretoria and Jaguares in Buenos Aires as well as the draw with the Hurricanes that preceded it.

The whole team seem to have found the structure and spark that was missing from the four defeats at the start of the campaign.

By contrast the Lions appear to have lost their mojo for the moment, suffering a 42-5 defeat to the Sharks at Ellis Park a fortnight ago, after three underwhelming wins, and then struggling to contain the Brumbies in Canberra last Saturday and enduring a 31-20 loss.

Recommendation
Chiefs -6
1pt 10-11 general
