Analysis

The Chiefs can mark their 25th anniversary with a narrow Hamilton success over north-island rivals the Hurricanes.

The Canes were beaten 24-15 at home by the Blues last weekend and being reduced to 12 men in the second half then is likely to have had an effect on their legs as well as their minds.

The Chiefs, by contrast, bounced back from a Waikato Stadium loss to the Brumbies with a 51-14 walloping of the Waratahs in Wollongong.

Before their Brumbies defeat the Chiefs had won their first three games of the season including a 25-15 home triumph over the champion Crusaders.

The Hurricanes suffered a 27-0 thumping by the Stormers in round one but bounced back to beat the Jaguares in Buenos Aires the following weekend so they may not be shaken off easily.

The teams' recent meetings in Hamilton have all been close. Last season's draw followed four Chiefs successes by 12 or fewer points.
