Briscoe brothers primed to punish Toronto out wide
Wigan can land Super 8s clean sweep in style
The Qualifiers
Sky Sports Arena, 7.45pm Friday
All four of the contenders for the Betfred Super League crown play their last Super 8s match before the semi-finals on Friday, but the main focus is on the battle to be part of the elite in 2019.
Leeds, the 2017 champions, face Toronto in their final contest in the Qualifiers and it’s perfectly possible the pair will meet in the top flight next season.
The Rhinos are almost certain to secure a Super League spot regardless of this weekend’s results but they have named a strong squad and are favourites by a dozen points.
That’s a fair assessment given the Canadians' away record in 2018. They lost a comparable fixture at Salford 28-16.
The Wolfpack, who desperately need a win to have a chance of a top-three finish in the mini league which would guarantee automatic promotion, are 100-30 to get one.
Toronto have conceded a try to an opposition winger in four of their last five games, so the Briscoe brothers, Tom and Luke, look well worth backing to lead the Rhinos' charge.
In the Super 8s, Wigan are bidding to become the first team to win all seven games in this phase of the competition when they face hapless Hull. The Black & Whites have lost ten on the spin and the Warriors are fancied to win at canter. They can cover the 22-point handicap.
Wigan’s semi-final opponents Castleford travel to table-toppers St Helens.
The Tigers, who haven’t won on Saints soil since 1992, are without Michael Shenton, Greg Eden, Junior Moors and Mike McMeeken so it’s no surprise to see the hosts favoured by ten points.
St Helens aren’t at full strength but with James Roby returning to the team, a small bet on the hosts is advised.
Warrington, who face St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium next Thursday, conclude their Super 8s programme at Wakefield.
The Wolves won 32-30 at Belle Vue in July and bookmakers have given Trinity a two-point handicap start for this rematch, which looks about right.
