Wolves have too much pace and power for struggling Southampton

What’s your best bet of the weekend?
Wolves to beat Southampton. A few weeks into the season it’s clear that Wolves are a decent side – better than I envisaged – while Southampton are struggling. Molineux is a fortress for Nuno’s men and I can see them having too much pace and power for the Saints.

Who are the most vulnerable favourites?
It’s not getting any better for Tottenham and I wouldn’t be taking short prices about them anywhere – and that includes at Huddersfield. We haven’t seen much from Huddersfield but they can be competitive and confidence is low at Spurs. They have won only one of their last five – fortunately, at Brighton – and look as though they need freshening up.

Where’s the value in Chelsea v Liverpool?
I couldn’t have Liverpool after Wednesday night so I’d suggest the draw. There really isn’t much between these sides but Chelsea’s League Cup win at Anfield was a decent statement. Liverpool were in total control of that game but still found a way to lose it and, even allowing for the changes made, that’s a psychological blow for Maurizio Sarri.

Who will leave Manchester United first – Jose Mourinho or Paul Pogba?
Mourinho, without a shadow of doubt. He stooped to a new low when he basically said he had no faith in Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in the penalty shootout against Derby. It was a crass, stupid thing to say and his ability to undermine international footballers shows no sign of ending. It’s desperate management and the board can’t let this go on.

La Liga looks tricky to call but who will be champions?
Atletico have to be the value. Barcelona will be distracted by the Champions League this season as they endeavour to give Lionel Messi a final European title while Real have unquestionably been weakened by Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit. Atletico continue to be a serious danger to both of the big guns and have to represent a decent bet.

Give us a winner from the midweek fixtures?
It’s a week for laying Tottenham. Barcelona are at Wembley on Wednesday night and I fancy them strongly. Barca dropped points against Girona and Leganes in their last two league matches which tells me that the focus is on the Champions League this term. They made a flying start against PSV and Wembley will suit them a treat.
