Wycombe v Shrewsbury
3pm Saturday
Gareth Ainsworth is the longest-serving manager in the EFL and Premier League following Jim Bentley's departure from Morecambe earlier this week and he can celebrate by leading Wanderers to a victory over Shrewsbury at Adams Park.
There is no sign of the Ainsworth magic disappearing during his eighth year with Wycombe up to the dizzy heights of second in Sky Bet League One.
It's a total surprise for many that Wycombe are flying so high and the football may not be pretty, but it's effective with Wanderers winning six and drawing two of their eight home matches.
Defence is what sets Wycombe apart - they have conceded just two shots on target in their last three matches - and it has been a rough schedule with trips to Blackpool and Rotherham and a home date with Sunderland.
Rotherham failed to have a shot on target last week and the Wycombe's team effort is spot on.
Set-pieces are a major weapon for them thanks to the left-footed delivery of Joe Jacobson and the unmistakable figure of Adebayo Akinfenwa offers a unique challenge for defenders, whether from the start or off the bench.
Scott Kashket has been among the goals and the prices would suggest there is very little between Wycombe and Shrewsbury.
The visitors are difficult to beat and have suffered only three defeats this season as the draw specialists have shared the spoils on six occasions.
However, they have scored just three times in the last six league games and were up against ten men in their matches with Lincoln and Tranmere.
They also needed a certain amount of luck last week to overcome Sunderland, who hit the woodwork three times and dominated the shot count 16-5.
Blackpool v Peterborough
3pm Saturday
Darren Ferguson has bemoaned the fixture list which means his Peterborough side are not top of Sky Bet League One after the two teams above them - Ipswich and Wycombe - each picked up three easy points against cash-strapped Bolton's youth team.
Posh are still only two points off the pace and the great entertainers can help themselves to another positive result at Blackpool.
It looked like Posh started slowly with one point from three matches, however, those fixtures were against Fleetwood (fourth), Oxford (fifth) and Ipswich (top). The next 12 league games have resulted in eight victories, three draws and one defeat - a 2-0 loss at Doncaster.
Ferguson's side have scored 36 goals in 15 matches and the individual quality of Marcus Maddison, Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa in the final third is frightening.
Eisa and Toney top the scoring charts with 11 goals each, while Maddison has chipped in with eight, most of them spectacular, and a further six assists, just one fewer than Blackpool's Liam Feeney.
Posh will have to watch Feeney's ability to find a teammate, although Blackpool have scored only 18 goals all season.
Two victories in 12 isn't great from Simon Grayson's outfit and they have probably chosen the worst game possible to be missing crack centre-back Curtis Tilt, who is suspended.
Plymouth v Grimsby
3pm Saturday
Ryan Lowe issued an apology to the Green Army after their Devon derby disaster which saw Plymouth pummeled 4-0 at Exeter last week.
Expect a positive reaction from Lowe, who can give the fans a high with a win over Grimsby.
Argyle are a good side who just chose a terrible time to put in a woeful performance. Exeter scored with all four of their shots on target.
Ryan Taylor, Danny Mayor and Billy Clarke - all on the bench at Exeter - could return to boost the side and put right the wrongs of last week.
Grimsby have taken one point and scored one goal in their last four league games, a run which has seen the Mariners slip down to 18th in League Two.
Only Cheltenham are averaging fewer shots than Grimsby in the division and they drew 0-0 at Cambridge, who had 71 per cent possession, last time out.
Weekend accumulators
Banker
Fulham 8-13
Fulham's firepower - led by Championship top goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic - is better than most in the division and should be enough to help the Cottagers see off Hull on home soil.
Blowout
Cardiff Evs
There is no denying that Cardiff are strong at home, but their performances have been average at best and Birmingham, with three wins in four, look overpriced to cause an upset.
Accumulator
Fulham 6-10, Wycombe 6-5, Plymouth 5-6, Barcelona 1-3. £1 accumulator returns £8.60 with Coral.
Both teams to score
Games at Doncaster 11-17, Mansfield 13-15, Milan 14-19. £1 treble returns £5.34 with RedZone.
Thought for the week
"Without us, the referees would be peeling potatoes," said Napoli president Aurelio de Laurnetiis helpfully in the same week that amateur officials in Berlin are going on strike in response to the number of violent attacks on them during this season.
"What is this buffoonery from the referee," the outspoken De Laurentiis went on to add, as he took his frustration out on anyone who would listen after Napoli were denied a penalty by VAR before opponents Atalanta went up the other end to land an equaliser in the next phase of play.
There was a five-minute delay as chaos ensued with Napoli insistent that Fernando Llorente was fouled in the build-up to Josip Ilicic's equaliser.
That was on Wednesday and three days earlier Franck Ribery was given a three-match suspension for pushing a linesman after Fiorentina felt they were wronged by a decision not to disallow Ciro Immobile's injury-time winner after a VAR consultation.
Remember all of this the next time somebody tells you VAR isn't the problem but rather the Premier League's implementation of the technology.
It works in other countries apparently.
