Manchester City won’t find it easy at Crystal Palace

1 What’s your best bet for the weekend?

Everton to win at Fulham, who have looked a poor side for a while now. The Toffees are hunting down seventh spot and on a good run of results and I’d expect them to carry on that form at the Cottage.

That’s nine defeats in a row for Fulham, who haven’t kept a clean sheet in 2019. Everton will get chances against a team whose confidence has completely disappeared.

2 Which favourites look the most vulnerable?

I couldn’t have Manchester United at a short price against West Ham. United look an exceptionally ordinary side at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has improved results and lifted spirits after the Mourinho disaster, but this is still a team – indeed a club – in serious need of a rebuild.

Recent wins have merely papered over the cracks because their performances haven’t been convincing. West Ham can put the brakes on them.

3 Where is the value in Liverpool v Chelsea on Sunday?

It’s Liverpool for me because of their home record, their ability to grind out results, their confidence and the question marks over Chelsea. It all should add up to a home win.

Liverpool are unbeaten for three months now and that’s despite several performances where the swagger hasn’t been there. And what a strength that is, to be able to win games where you aren’t at your best against teams who are hard to break down.

Chelsea, of course, have their own agenda with a top-four finish in their sights though their Thursday night trip to Prague won’t have done them many favours going into this difficult trip.

Sunday is huge – the biggest day of the title race so far and the potential is there for swing towards the Reds.

Manchester City won’t find it easy at Palace, especially after the examination they were given at Tottenham in the Champions League. They certainly aren’t good things at Selhurst Park.

Who knows, Liverpool could be five points clear by the end of the day and with their destiny back in their hands.

4 Do you give Cardiff any chance of avoiding relegation?

They have six games left and two of those are against Liverpool and Manchester United. If you give them nothing from those matches – and they’ve got nothing from the big six so far – that means they have probably got to get eight points from their other four matches. I don’t see it happening.

5 How do you see the Man City v Spurs Champions League second leg going?

You have to give Mauricio Pochettino enormous credit for Tottenham’s defensive effort against City in the first leg, though the bigger surprise was City’s bluntness.

Now we’re supposed to presume that City should be 1-3 to win the second leg and 4-6 to qualify. I’d lay either of those. I can see Tottenham scoring at City even without Harry Kane and that means City would then have to find three against a Spurs side who, as we saw, will give them very little.

We’ve been here before with City and Spurs are going to take some dislodging.

6 Give us a winner on the midweek coupon

I’d love to see Ajax get through to the semis because they have been a breath of fresh air in the Champions League – but sometimes you’ve got to let your head rule your heart.

And that means Juventus, who will be crowned Italian champions this weekend, should finish off the Dutchmen. At this stage of the tournament it’s about nous and Juve have that in buckets.
