Match preview

This week’s marquee match sees Auburn head to the Swamp to face Florida for the first time since 2011, and they will be bidding for their fourth consecutive victory against the Gators.

Both sides have started the season with five wins but there is a stark difference in the strength of opponents they have faced in reaching that record.

The Tigers are the only team to have beaten two ranked teams this season with victories over Texas A&M and Oregon.

The Gators, however, are yet to play a ranked side so it's difficult to assess what has been an impressive statistical start on both sides of the ball.

Tigers' quarterback Bo Nix had a slow first half in their opener against Oregon, his collegiate debut, but he has settled well and not looked back since.

Auburn’s greatest strength lies in their defensive front, who have stifled just about every rushing offence they have faced this season.

If Florida are unable to establish the run, which they have managed to do against lesser opponents, a one-dimensional team led by back-up quarterback Kyle Trask may struggle against a top-ranked defence.

Trask has looked solid without impressing in relief of the injured Felipe Franks, but he’s yet to be tested to this extent.

Auburn are well-balanced offensively, have an elite defence and have already been highly tested this season, and the Tigers look to have a great chance of claiming another win.

Purdue at Penn State

Best bet

Penn State to score 52 points or more

Match preview

Penn State’s offensive juggernaut can roll once more as they welcome an injury-stricken Purdue to the Beaver Stadium.

The 12th-ranked Penn State have already put up mammoth points totals through five weeks, with 79 against Idaho, 45 against Buffalo and 59 against Maryland last week.

They’re now facing a terrible Purdue defence who could be similarly dispatched.

Purdue’s defence is ranked 113th, giving up an average of 451 yards a game, and they have conceded 34 or more points in three of their four games this season.

The Boilermakers lost their starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar and star receiver Rondale Moore to injuries last week and are likely to struggle to move the ball.

Penn State’s defence has been excellent this season, with a shutout last week and having allowed a total of three touchdowns in four games, Purdue look unlikely to have considerably success on offence.

Penn State are 26.5-point favourites for a reason, they are superior in just about every department and if the Boilermakers do struggle offensively, the Nittany Lions will have plenty of possession and should score a large total for the fourth time this season.
