Tom Brady and Bill Belichick win sixth Super Bowl with New England
Disappointing Rams lose 13-3 in damp squib in Atlanta
Head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady carved their names deeper into the NFL history books with their sixth Super Bowl victory as New England Patriots beat Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Atlanta.
A surprisingly low-scoring clash - the points line had been 56.5 - was settled by Sony Michel's fourth-quarter touchdown after each team had managed just one field goal up to that point.
The Rams, who had been 2.5-point underdogs, never led and rarely looked like scoring - the Patriots' TD drive was the first time either team had been inside their opponents' 20-yard line. A Stephen Gostkowski field goal - he had missed an attempt in the first half - made the victory safe with 72 seconds left.
The misery for points-buyers continued to the end as the Rams missed a field goal with five seconds left. It left the Patriots to savour their biggest margin of victory in any of their six Super Bowl successes.
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was named MVP after recording ten receptions for 141 yards.
Sporting Index suffered as a result of the record lowest Super Bowl score, as the firm were stung for £100,000 after predicting a total of 57 points for the NFL finale.
Spokesman Ed Fulton said: "Despite calling correctly that the Patriots would win a record sixth title from an early stage, last night's Super Bowl wasn't a good night for us due to it being such a low-scoring match.
"We expected the game to be fairly high scoring but plenty of our customers went against that and they were rewarded for their efforts with the lowest ever number of points in a Super Bowl.”
The Patriots are 11-2 favourites to win the 2020 Super Bowl with Betway, who rate both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Rams 6-1.
