Texans may prove too strong for the Jets

Visitors close to securing a place in the playoffs

Houston's nine-game winning streak came to an end at a bad time against their AFC South rivals Indianapolis last week, but a trip to the Big Apple gives them an ideal opportunity to start another.

The Texans are probably flattered by their 9-4 record as none of the teams they beat in their successful streak are among the league's leading lights, but no one would put the Jets in that category either.

The Jets' recent record is almost the opposite of Houston's - they won against Buffalo last week after a string of six defeats.

The home team are missing their top receiver Quincy Enunwa and leading running back Isaiah Crowell, leaving a sparse arsenal for rookie quarterback Sam Darnold to work with as he faces a tough defence.

JJ Watt and his fellow Texans could well give Darnold an education and it's no surprise to see the visitors as heavy favourites to inflict a fifth home defeat of the season on the Jets.

Houston wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has been going through a quiet spell but second-season quarterback Deshaun Watson has cut down the mistakes, with six turnover-free games in his last seven appearances, and they pose a major threat to the Jets.

There are scenarios where the Texans can secure their playoff spot this week but they will be well on their way with a victory in this contest, which looks highly achievable.
