Match preview

Being home for Christmas is the last thing the Arizona Cardinals wanted having lost 12 of the last 13 at State Farm Stadium and they must now go into battle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by a third-string quarterback.

The Cards’ top two signal-callers Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy will sit out this clash, meaning a first NFL start for Trace McSorley on the back of a dreadful cameo in Arizona’s loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 15.

The quarterback crisis is part of a wider injury headache facing Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury, leaving him short-handed for the visit of a desperate Bucs team.

Tampa Bay lead an unlikely four-way race for the NFC South, despite a 6-8 record, but have a great opportunity to keep their noses in front in Arizona.

Tom Brady’s up-and-down season continued with a mixed showing in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week but he did at least link up well with wide receiver Mike Evans.

Evans had 83 receiving yards in the loss to the Bengals, the ninth time in 12 games he’s cracked the 50-yard mark, and can enjoy another productive outing against an injury-hit Cardinals defence.
