The Los Angeles Rams came from behind to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI and become just the second team ever to win in their own stadium after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers managed the feat last season.

Star wide receiver Cooper Kupp scored two touchdowns en route to picking up MVP honours - he had been 6-1 pre match to secure the award - adding to his record-breaking season in which he led the league in receptions, yards and touchdowns.

The Rams opened the scoring with Matthew Stafford finding Odell Beckham Jr for an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter but the receiver would later leave the field through injury, limiting Stafford’s options.

Kupp picked up his first touchdown in the second quarter to give Los Angeles a 13-3 lead before Joe Burrow and the Bengals scored 17 unanswered points to lead 20-13 in the second half.

A Rams field goal brought the teams within four points in the final quarter when Stafford engineered a drive that ended with another Kupp touchdown to give Los Angeles a 23-20 lead with just a minute and 25 seconds left on the clock.

The Bengals’ final play saw Burrow throw the ball away under pressure from Aaron Donald, a sight that was emblematic of the struggles of Cincinnati’s offensive line.

Burrow was sacked seven times in the game and 19 times in the post-season in total, a new NFL record.

Los Angeles became just the second team to win the Super Bowl while rushing for less than 50 yards after 'The Greatest Show on Turf' Rams side in 1999.

The game brought to a close a post-season that had been historically competitive - the last seven games of the playoffs were all decided by one score.

Rams quarterback Stafford thanked his coach and star receiver after the game, saying: "I just thank the coach for saying 'you and Cooper Kupp go and get this thing done', and calling plays for him. I kept finding ways to get him the ball, and he kept making unbelievable plays. That is what he does."

In the early betting for next year’s contest, the Rams are 10-1 shots while the Bengals are priced up at 12-1. Kansas City are 13-2 favourites ahead of 15-2 Buffalo.
