Two goliaths of the NFL do battle in the NFC Championship game as the Philadelphia Eagles host the San Francisco 49ers. 

Both teams have been in red-hot form all season but only one can advance to the Super Bowl LVII.

The 49ers and Eagles have become renowned for their high-octane offences this season, but their defences have been just as strong and going low on points looks the best strategy in this high-stakes encounter.

The 49ers have allowed the fewest points in the NFL this season but the Eagles are also a mean proposition without the ball.

Admittedly, Philadelphia have had problems against the run, which could be a problem tonight given San Francisco have Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell at their disposal, but a points line of 46.5 still looks too high and factors in too heavily both sides’ offensive qualities rather than their defensive strength.

The Eagles limited the Giants to just seven points in last week’s divisional round and total points have failed to meet bookmakers’ expectations in their last four matches.

As for the 49ers, points have gone over the line in only two of their last six games – but that is more down to the points they’ve posted as opposed to the ones they’ve given up. 

Against a top Cowboys defence the Niners managed only 19 points, and we could see something similar at Lincoln Financial Field.

Expect points to be at a premium in what promises to be a tension-filled decider.
