Rams at Packers preview

This isn't the blockbuster clash it must have looked when the NFL schedule was drawn up. Super Bowl champions the Los Angeles Rams limp to Lambeau Field with a 4-9 record, while the Packers, who were expected to be a major force in the NFC under Aaron Rodgers, are not much better off at 5-8.

The Rams look a spent force after lifting the Lombardi Trophy in their own stadium last year, and few of the headline acts from that success will be playing in this game.

Odell Beckham and Von Miller are no longer with the Californian club, while QB Matthew Stafford and star wide receiver Cooper Kupp are injured.

Rams fans finally had something to cheer last time out when Baker Mayfield stepped off the plane after being released by the Panthers and led the team on a wild 98-yard TD drive to beat the Raiders, but that was their first win for seven games.

Mayfield should be much better having had another ten days to learn the playbook, as that was a Thursday game, but the Rams are short of offensive weapons these days and their defence is a pale imitation of last season's dominant unit.

The Packers have also been disappointing this season, but have been performing to a solid standard in recent games, with wins over the Cowboys and Bears and losses to decent teams in the Titans and Eagles in their last four outings.

Rookie wide receiver Christian Watson has become a key player, scoring seven receiving touchdowns and one rushing TD in just the last four games and with temperatures set to be well below freezing for this contest, experience of the conditions should also be a help to the home team.
