None of the NFC East teams appeared to want to win the division last season, with Washington sheepishly triumphing with a 7-9 record. The early signs are that it will be more competitive this time, though, with the Football Team, Eagles and Cowboys all on the board with early wins. Monday's clash between the Cowboys and Eagles is a key contest in what should again be an open division and the home team are fancied to emerge with a win at AT&T Stadium.

The Eagles have looked an improved team so far this season but their form has to be questioned. They thrashed Atlanta 32-6, but the Falcons just can’t stop the run, and the 49ers beat the Eagles despite giving up 151 yards on the ground. Philadelphia struggled to get anything going offensively in their 17-11 home defeat.

Dallas could have problems with their pass defence, but they are pretty sound at stopping the run. They have had a tough time dealing with pass plays in their first two games, but they were up against Tom Brady and Justin Herbert in those contests and Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts does not fit into the same elite quarterback category.

The key to handling Hurts is to keep him in check when he runs, and if they do that, they should be able to limit the Eagles' scoring. Taking Dallas -3.5 is not ideal, because the half-point can often be a problem, but the Cowboys' offence should be able to put enough points on the board that it doesn't become an issue. If they can start well enough to make Hurts and the Eagles have to rely on their passing attack, that would certainly be bad news for Philadelphia backers.
