Road teams rack up the wins as veterans make history

Here's our verdict on Week Four in the NFL:

Winners

1 Road teams

Eleven of the 15 Week Four games were won by the away teams and it was 11 from 13 before New Orleans and Pittsburgh got two back for the home sides on Sunday and Monday night. That was straight up - and on the handicap through the first four weeks, NFL away teams are 40-22-1.

2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay were the second biggest underdogs of the week when they travelled from Florida to California and beat the NFC champions Los Angeles Rams by 15 points. The game total was set at 48 points but the Buccaneers scored 55 on their own against the feared Rams defence on a crazy afternoon.

3 The old-timers

Larry Fitzgerald and Frank Gore just keep on truckin'. The Arizona Cardinals wideout is second only to the legendary Jerry Rice in NFL history after taking his career receptions tally to 1,326 in Sunday's 27-10 loss to Seattle. Fitz's place in the Hall of Fame looks assured but few have previously considered Frank Gore a candidate. The long-serving running back has, however, become only the fourth player to reach 15,000 career rushing yards, behind the illustrious trio of Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders. The former 49ers, Colt and Dolphin was also the first 36-year-old for nearly 41 years to rush for more than 100 yards in a game as he rumbled for 109 yards against New England.

Losers

1 Vontaze Burfict

On Monday the NFL did what many impartial fans had been hoping they would do for some time - finally took strong action against Vontaze Burfict. Long considered one of the dirtiest players in the league, the Raiders linebacker was suspended for the rest of the season after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Jack Doyle of Indianapolis. The former Bengal has been fined more than $4m and suspended ten times for previous offences.

2 Mitchell Trubisky

Things should be set perfectly for the Bears quarterback. The Chicago defence is a major force this season, but the face of the franchise has not lived up to billing. Trubisky has struggled this season and was knocked out of their game against Minnesota with a shoulder injury on Sunday. Things got worse after that as he had to watch career back-up Chase Daniel play much better than he had been as the Bears won 16-6. When Trubisky is fit again he could have competition for the start.

3 Denver Broncos

Colorado's former powerhouse franchise are in a bad spot. They've lost their first four games and now one of the few bright spots, pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, is out for the season with a knee injury. "It's a huge loss," said head coach Vic Fangio.

0-16 watch

Miami soon fell off the pace against the LA Chargers, a 30-10 defeat taking them to a 0-4 record, and bet365 quote them at 3-1 to go 0-16. But at least things won't get any worse for the Dolphins this week as it's their bye week. Cincinnati, Denver and Washington have the chance to be the first team to 0-5 instead. The Bengals, miserable as they were in Monday's defeat to the Steelers, have the best chance to get a win on the board as they play Arizona, who would be 0-4 themselves but for a miracle comeback to tie with Detroit. Cincinnati are favourites for the game.

London, baby!

The first of this year's four International Series games in London takes place at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as Chicago take on Oakland, who are the offical home team. The Bears are 4-9 for the win and 4.5-point handicap favourites. The Raiders are 0-2 in London, having lost to Seattle last year and to Miami in 2014. The Bears won on their only visit to Wembley, beating Tampa Bay 24-18 in 2011.
