Red hot Colts to give champions a run for their money
Free American football tips, best bets and analysis for Week 12 of the 2021 NFL season.
The NFL handed out a tasty Thanksgiving Day Week 12 appertiser on Thursday and now we are ready for the main course with an intriguing slate of Sunday fixtures.
Hoping to find more winners than turkeys from this week’s slate of game is NFL expert Chris Rivers, who has put together a fourfold that pays out at 8-1 with bet365.
Indianapolis Colts +4 v Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Philadelphia Eagles -3 v New York Giants
Pittsburgh Steelers +5 v Cincinnati Bengals
Minnesota Vikings +3.5 v San Francisco 49ers
All bets must be placed by 6pm
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are the hottest team in the NFL right now, having thrashed the Buffalo Bills 41-15 last Sunday to make it five wins from their last six games. A franchise record five-touchdown performance from Jonathan Taylor in that game has propelled him towards the top of the market in the Offensive Player of the Year betting and he looks tough to stop.
Indy aren’t a one-man team with quarterback Carson Wentz enjoying a strong season, throwing 18 touchdowns to three interceptions, while the defence has climbed into the total defence DVOA top-10.
They face a Buccaneers side who got back to winning ways after two straight losses by beating the New York Giants. That win for the Super Bowl champions came at home and they have been inconsistent on the road, losing three of their five away games and failing to cover the spread in every match.
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
Three wins from the last four games has seen the Eagles enter the NFC wildcard race and they can keep up the pace by recording a 13th win in the last 15 meetings with divisional rivals, the Giants.
Philadelphia are averaging more than 30 points per game in the last six weeks thanks to a strong running game which now ranks second in the NFL.
The Eagles defence is allowing less than 20 points per game away from home and that’s bad news for a New York team with giant problems in attack. Big Blue fired their offensive coordinator Jason Garrett this week after the loss to the Buccaneers but any changes won’t be immediate and they’ll struggle to keep up with Philly.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals
The Steelers produced their best offensive performance of the season against the Chargers in Week 11, scoring 37 points in a losing effort in LA.
The offence was let down by the defence, which has been the more reliable unit of the two this season. The defence looks much stronger this week with TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick expected back from injury, while the Steelers are 49-20 following a loss under head coach Mike Tomlin.
The Bengals got back to winning ways against the Raiders last week but their defence doesn't look trustworthy, despite keeping Las Vegas at bay. This is a fixture that doesn't produce a lot of point - the last seven have all finished under 47 points - so getting a sizeable handicap start for the Steelers holds plenty of appeal.
Minnesota Vikings at San Francisco 49ers
Joining the Eagles in making a dash for the wildcard places are the Vikings, who head to San Francisco searching for a third straight win. A victory would see Minnesota leapfrog the Niners into the last playoff spot and away teams have had plenty of success in the Bay Area recently - San Francisco losing 12 of the last 15 at home.
The 49ers are 1-4 against the spread at home this year and in a battle of two evenly matched teams, it should pay to take the points on offer with the Vikings. Even when Minnesota have lost this year, they haven’t been blown out - three of their five defeats have been by three points.
