Utah Utes at Washington Huskies preview

The Utah Utes avenge their 10-3 defeat to the Washington Huskies in a replay of last season’s Pac-12 championship game.

The Huskies have a 12-1 record against Utah, but this season the tide has turned.

Utah are heading the Pac-12 South with a 7-1 record and Washington are fourth in the North at 5-3.

Utah’s success this season is no secret, they are ranked in the country, and they have their suffocating defence to thank for it.

The Utes have conceded an average of only 11.7 points per game and a measly 247.7 yards per game, good enough for fourth-best in the nation.

Points have also been in short supply in this match-up, with just one of the 13 meetings seeing more than 42 points, and that was in 1959.

The storied colleges are known for their resolute defence, and although Washington’s has dropped from their stellar unit of last season, they have done well at home, conceding an average of 20.6 points per game.

The Utes should avenge their Championship game loss but they may have to dig deep in another low-scoring affair between the sides.

Mississippi State Bulldogs at Arkansas Razorbacks preview

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have lost their last four games, but they have done so against stellar opposition including Texas A&M, LSU and Auburn, who combine for a 19-5 record.

Arkansas look set to be the perfect opponents for the Bulldogs to halt their slide against, largely due to their inability to stop the run.

The Razorbacks rank 97th in rushing defence, conceding an average of 191 yards per game and just shy of five yards per carry.

The Razorbacks have similarly struggled this season and are bottom of their division with just two wins from eight games, losing their last five, and are winless in five SEC conference games.

Although the Bulldogs have lost their last four and failed to cover the handicap in each of those contests, they’ll take confidence from their success running the ball.

Last week in their 49-40 defeat to Texas A&M, Mississippi State racked up 239 rushing yards against a defence who have allowed an average of only 148 per game.

Establishing the ground game has been the recipe for success for the Bulldogs, who have averaged 239 yards in their three victories this season, and they should pound the Razorbacks into submission.
