Carolina appear to still have a massive hangover after their Super Bowl defeat to Denver in February and they look a million miles away from reaching the showpiece this season after beginning the campaign with five defeats from their opening six matches.

Last week’s bye came at the perfect time to give them a chance to regroup but while quarterback Cam Newton is recording figures that are not too dissimilar to the ones he posted last season, the defence is struggling and they will not have an easy time against the Cardinals.

Arizona had to be content with a tie despite being the better team against NFC West rivals Seattle last week – they missed a 24-yard field goal in overtime – but their start has not been a disaster and they should be confident.
