Match preview

It's only Week Six in the NFL, but Denver are already under huge pressure after falling well short of pre-season expectations.

The Broncos were seen as a Super Bowl team in waiting last season, with stacks of talent on offence and defence who were just missing an elite quarterback to take them to the next level.

They went out and signed that quarterback, bringing in Russell Wilson from Seattle in a huge trade, but initial results have been disappointing.

The Broncos go into this game with a 2-3 record, and while the losses were by small margins of one, nine and three, points, they have failed the eye test and look a lot further away from being contenders than expected.

The Chargers are in better shape at 3-2 and have already come through a sticky situation with quarterback Justin Herbert suffering a rib injury, although a strange late play call from head coach Brandon Staley very nearly threw away victory in last week's 30-28 win at Cleveland.

The Chargers don't make a habit of winning by wide margins, and they are only 3-3 against the handicap as favourites of 3.5 points or more under Staley.

LA have looked the better outfit this season but preference is to skip the handicap and make a play on the teams producing a high-scoring game.

Both teams play at a high pace and prefer to pass than run. Neither have been as efficient as expected defensively and both have suffered key injuries on that side of the ball.

Both sides have the offensive talent to exploit each other's weaknesses. Under Staley, Chargers games have gone over the total ten of the 12 times that the line was less than 50. This is a low line for a Chargers game and the teams should exceed it.
