Cowboys at Giants preview

A 2-0 start from the New York Giants has led to a few raised eyebrows and they could be about to spring another surprise on those expecting an ugly, low-scoring divisional showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys got a win last week over the Cincinnati Bengals to improve to 1-1, doing so in spite of the absence of first-choice quarterback Dak Prescott, who is sidelined with a thumb injury.

Without Prescott, expectations for this Dallas offence have nosedived with little faith shown in back-up QB Cooper Rush.

However, there are a few things in Dallas’ favour going into Monday’s trip to New York.

The Giants are potentially missing their best defender in Leonard Williams, who has sat out practice this week with an MCL sprain, while the Cowboys are hopeful wide receiver Michael Gallup will be fit to play, giving Rush another weapon.

The Giants offence has hardly set the world alight either, but life could be a little easier for them if Dallas’ defensive star Micah Parsons, who is currently dealing with an illness, isn’t at 100 per cent.

Expect Big Blue to lean heavily on running back Saquon Barkley given his good start to the year. Barkley has registered more rushing yards than any other RB entering Week Three, including seven runs of at least ten yards.

Of course, it’s not all on the offences to push this total over with Dallas’s ball-hawking defence, which led the league in interceptions and interceptions returned for a touchdown last year, capable of making some big plays.

Sometimes you will see a low-total game end up going over because of defensive turnovers as well as a bunch of three-and-outs, leading to short fields and ultimately more scoring. This could be one of those occasions.
