Match preview

The teams currently holding the fifth and sixth seedings for the AFC playoffs clash at Heinz Field and bookmakers anticipated a gutsy clash between two decent defences.

Buffalo head to Pennsylvania having lost to rampant Baltimore last week, but there is little disgrace in that and with nine wins on the board their season has already exceeded many people's expectations.

Mike Tomlin's Steelers have seen the Ravens fly over the horizon in the AFC North but after seven wins in their last eight games they are in with a chance of a playoff campaign that looked impossible when they started 1-4.

Only their AFC East rivals New England have conceded fewer points per game than Buffalo's average of 16.3, while Pittsburgh are sixth in those standings with 18.6, so there is little surprise to see the total-points line at just 36.5.

However, going over the line could be justified. Buffalo have posted double-figure margins of victory in their last five wins, so they are getting the job done on both sides of the ball.

And while Pittsburgh have averaged 19.9 points per game this season, that figure is 23.7 in games on their own patch.

With plenty at stake, both teams can be expected to go all out for all four quarters, so the modest points total could well be beaten.
